LASIK Answers

What age range can have the surgery?
LASIK is available for a wide range of age groups. the best candidates for LASIK are people in their twenties or older, with stable prescriptions, and before the onset of cataracts.
How effective is the procedure?
After LASIK sugery the majority of people are able to pass their driver's license test without glasses or contact lenses. Most people have an immediate improvement in their vision.
Does it hurt?
LASIK is a safe and painlness surgical procedure. LASIK requires only anesthetic eye drops and no stitches are used in the surgery. The natural healing ability of your eye is what bonds the cornea together after the procedure is performed. You may notice a mild gritty sensation, which generally disappears during the short period following the treatment.
What risks are involved?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved in LASIK. The experience of teh surgeon is the largest factor in the saftey of the surgery. LASIK techniques have been performed for many years, with the principles of refractive surgery dating back to the 1900's. Our surgeon is well trained and very experienced in performing LASIK procedures. The Excimer laser used in LASIK reshapes the cornea to reduce your dependence on corrective lenses such as glasses or contact lenses.
Can this correct for astigmatism?
LASIK can correct for various refractive problems, including far-sightedness, near-sightedness, and astigmatism. The cornea is reshaped during the procedure to correct for those eye conditions. Stability of your prescription is needed to help insure the results of the treatment.
Will I Need reading glasses?
Bifocal wearers will continue to wear reading glasses after the LASIK procedure. Enhancements can be made to offer additional improvement to your reading correction.
How can I pay for LASIK operation?
There are three ways to pay for LASIK. Cash and credit cards are accepted for payment in full. the fees for the LASIK procedure include two pre-operative exams, LASIK surgery, and one year post-operative care to ensure the health of your eyes. In addition, financing is available through CapitalOne Healthcare Finance®.

Eye Tracker FAQ

Does your laser have an eye tracker?
Yes, to stay at the forefront of emerging technology, we have recently upgraded our laser to the Visx Star S4 Active Trak system. This advancement can mean better outcomes for patients as the laser tracks involuntary eye movements during the treatment. The laser pays attention to exactly where they are looking.
What is so different about your laser?
The Active Trak system maximizes laser vision correction by following patients' eye movements to deliver each laser pulse as prescribed. On other types of lasers, eye movements can cause decentered pulses that would not give the patient the full effect of the treatment prescribed and entered into the laser by the surgeon.

Other eye trackers, such as LADARVISION, require an extra step to dilate the patient, and they only follow the left and right movements of the eye - not the up and down movements that can happen whne the patient breathes.
Do all lasers have eye trackers?
No, not every laser has one. Many other laser manufacturers are trying to develop this advanced technology. A 2000 survey by an industry publication showed that 7 out of 10 doctors prefer Visx systems over others.
